The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized violence against young women as a pressing global health issue. It's a problem of enormous proportions that demands our attention. Shockingly, according to a recent Macro-survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Social Services, and Equality, a staggering 67.8% of victims of gender violence choose to suffer in silence. This survey, which interviewed 10,171 young women and victims, sheds light on the reasons behind this distressing phenomenon. The primary factors contributing to their silence are fear (44.6%), followed by shame (26.6%) and the overwhelming burden of silence (21%). It's crucial that we address these concerns and work towards creating a society where victims feel empowered to speak up and seek justice.

SILENCE project aims:

  • To promote the «reparation, recovery and reintegration» into the everyday life of young girls, from Italy and Spain, who are victims of violence, abuse, and/or male chauvinist mistreatment, whose lives have been suspended.

  • To co-create a «Repair, Recovery and Resilience Plan» through an innovative approach using the tandem between the «Traumatic Autobiographical Narrative Therapy» and the «Autobiographical Dance-Theater»

Specific objectives:

  • To promote a better understanding in society of the invisible effects of abuse in «autobiographical memory» that linger on the victim (isolation, fears, guilt, etc.) and that negatively affect all spheres of her daily life; relationships, work or studies and even her future from her work with young girls victims of aggression.

  • To develop innovative approaches and teaching materials, to train the staff of partner organisations

  • To show the social incomprehension felt by young women who are victims of aggression

The SILENCE project is based on the bi-directional methodology of Dramatherapy, Autobiographical Theater, as well as dance-theater, a good practice by director Domingo Ferrandis. It begins with an artistic and sisterhood residency involving two groups of 10 women each, aged between 18 and 29. One group is located in Modena, with the support of the "Associazione Casa Delle Donne Contro La Violenza Odv" in Modena, Emilia Romagna, Italy. The other group is supported by Paula García Gironés, a gender equality agent, Rosa Conca Perez, an expert in gender equality promotion, and Raquel Revert del Carmen, a dancer and choreographer from the Community of Municipalities of Vall d'Albaida, Valencia, Spain. The entire project is coordinated by Ana María Solís and project manager Domingo Ferrandis, both from SOLIS Srls. It is an innovative and multidisciplinary collaboration between art and gender equality that connects two cities, aiming to "reveal, recover, and return" the participants to their everyday lives, which have been impacted by intertwined male-centric behaviors.
